Zhixu (Rick) Yang, Ph.D.

Organizational Psychologist, Assistant Professor

About

Rick is an Assistant Professor in Industrial-Organizational Psychology at Baruch College, City University of New York. He earned his Ph.D. degree in I-O Psychology from Purdue University and his B.Sc. degree in Psychology from Zhejiang University in China.

Rick studies how people experience conflict—whether balancing competing goals, negotiating disagreements, or facing biases and mistreatment—and how these processes shape well-being at work and beyond. His research draws from multiple disciplines, including social, cognitive, and cultural psychology and organizational behavior. Rick uses a wide range of methods such as psychometric assessments, longitudinal studies, multilevel modeling, experimental designs, and qualitative approaches. His work appears in respected journals and handbooks, including Applied Psychology: An International Review, Industrial and Organizational Psychology, and the Handbook of Experimental Social Psychology

Rick is passionate about mentoring graduate and undergraduate students and serving communities. Outside work, he likes to spend time with friends and his dog Koko, enjoy good food, take photos, and play tennis (very occasionally and poorly).
